Happy February friends! Holy cow, I can’t believe it’s already February. Usually January feels soooo long, but honestly this year it flew. I’m ready for a new month and a new chance to better myself! But, in honor of January coming to an end I wanted to recap my TV favorites: all the tv shows I’m currently watching/re-watching or binged during January.

Let’s get into it!

  1. Schitt’s Creek
    • Rewatching
    • This is my comfort show right now so I always have it playing.
    • 10/10
  2. The Vampire Diaries
    • Rewatching
    • This is my second time through. A lot has happened that I forgot about. I sometimes feel like I’m watching it for the first time, haha.
    • 9/10
  3. The Bachelor
    • Currently watching, I’m not sure what season this is (there have been so many, lol)
    • I’m a Bachelor fanatic, but this season definitely isn’t my favorite, hopefully it gets better with less drama.
    • 5/10
  4. LA’s Finest
    • Binged
    • Sadly, it was cancelled after 2 seasons and Netflix is only streaming the first season, but it was really good!
    • 8/10
  5. WandaVision
    • Currently watching
    • AHHH, this show is SO good! Since I just finished rewatching all the Marvel movies, this is giving me my “Marvel” fix. Love it.
    • 20/10
  6. Riverdale
    • Currently watching
    • I believe this is season 5. Honestly, at this point I’m keeping up with the show out of loyalty and not so much interest. HOWEVER, it still has really good parts and I’m super excited for the 5 year time jump.
    • 6.5/10
  7. Legacies
    • Currently watching
    • Season 3. Legacies holds a special place in my heart because I love The Vampire Diaries and The Originals.
    • 8/10
  8. Upload
    • Binged
    • Holy cow, this show is soo good. I can’t wait for season 2. For any The Office lovers, this show was created by Greg Daniels and he didn’t disappoint.
    • 10/10
  9. The Good Place
    • Currently binging
    • This follows the afterlife storyline similar to Upload and was also created by The Office’s Michael Schur. Super into this one, I honestly never know what to expect next.
    • 10/10

What TV shows were you binging in January?

10 Best Christmas Movies to Watch this December

Hello friends! It is the Third Day of Blogmas, and today we have a Christmas themed post!

One of the things I have to do every December is create a list of must-see movies to get into the Christmas spirit. Of course I’m always adding and taking some things off, depending on what came out that year, but I have my core 10 of CLASSICS that I always watch. I feel incomplete if I forget/don’t have access to watching them. These are my all-time favorites, and I hope you guys enjoy them! In no particular order, let’s dive in!

Elf (2003)

Buddy (a human) grew up in the North Pole with elves. When he discovers he’s actually not an elf, he travels to New York in search of his real father, who happens to be on the naughty list (gasp.) He reluctantly attempts to form a relationship with Buddy, and chaos follows. Will Ferrell is fantastic in this movie and it never fails to make me laugh. Look forward to a heartfelt and warm ending filled with Christmas spirit.

Where to watch: $3.99 on Prime Video

Home Alone (1990) + Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992)

The epitome of a classic Christmas movie. In these movies, Kevin is separated from his family for their annual Christmas vacation. What seems like a fun and exciting time for himself quickly turns into a dangerous fight to protect his house (Home Alone) and the Toy Store (Home Alone 2). This is one of my favorites, Macaulay Culkin does a wonderful job paired with Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern as the bad guys. This movie is sure to make you laugh and remind you of the importance of family, especially during the holidays.

Where to watch: Free with Disney+

The Santa Clause (1994) + The Santa Clause 2 (2002) + The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006)

Tim Allen is a genius in this trilogy. Each movie covers Scott Calvin’s journey of becoming Santa Claus and the different challenges he faces through that. These movies give all the Christmas feels, paired with great laughs, and the reminder of having a childlike faith and believing in something when you can’t see it.

Where to watch: Free with Disney+

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989)

The holidays are right around the corner, and Clark Griswold wants to have the perfect Christmas. His plan goes out the window, however, when his crazy family shows up unannounced. This movie is full of wild twists and turns, lots of laughs, and crazy shenanigans. Chevy Chase is a classic on his own, so you know this movie will be great.

Where to watch: $3.99 on Prime Video

Four Christmases (2008)

If you’re looking for a great Christmas movie to make you laugh nonstop, look no further. Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn are the perfect pairing in this comedy. It follows the couple as their trip away for the holidays gets cancelled, forcing them to visit their family and each of their Christmases. What fun are the holidays without a little family dysfunction?

Where to watch: $3.99 on Prime Video

Krampus (2015)

If you’re into spooky things, Krampus adds a bit of scare to Christmas. There always needs to be a bad guy, in this case Krampus, to balance out the good guy, Santa Claus. The movie follows a family who has no Christmas spirit, because of this, Krampus comes to punish them. Personally, I didn’t find it too scary, which I enjoyed and it gave a nice contrast to the usual heartfelt Christmas movie.

Where to watch: $3.99 on Prime Video

Jingle All The Way (1996)

Arnold Schwarzenegger is absolutely amazing in this movie. He plays a workaholic who doesn’t make enough quality time for his wife and son. To make it up to his son, he promises to get him the hottest toy of the year, Turbo-Man, for Christmas. The movie shows the wild and chaotic events that happen as Schwarzenegger discovers this toy is sold out almost everywhere. This movie is sure to give you a good laugh and show you the true meaning of Christmas and family.

Where to watch: $3.99 on Prime Video

Deck the Halls (2006)

Steve, the classic suburban dad who happens to be obsessed with Christmas, finds his well-kept life is thrown for a loop when his new neighbor, Danny, moves in. Danny decides he wants to decorate his house in Christmas lights, and wants them to be so bright you can see it from space. Steve won’t let Danny outdo his festiveness, so war is declared.

Where to watch: $1.99 on Prime Video

Christmas with the Kranks (2004)

The Kranks decide to “skip Christmas” due to their daughter being away for the holidays. The small and very festive town they reside in doesn’t take this news well and try to deter the Krank’s plans. The Kranks soon find themselves outcast by the town for their lack of Christmas spirit. Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis are two of my favorite actors, so their pairing in this movie is the perfect combination for a great laugh.

Where to watch: $3.99 on Prime Video

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

The Grinch is a loner who lives by himself on a mountain far away from the Whos in Whoville. He hates Christmas, opposite the Whos, whose personality revolves around Christmas. With the help of his dog, Max, he decides to steal Christmas. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who. Jim Carrey plays this character so well, and in my opinion this movie really shows what the true meaning of Christmas is.

Where to watch: Free with Netflix

*Bonus*

White Christmas (1954)

I actually just watched this for the first time this year, but it automatically made my list. Bing Crosby, KING of Christmas stars in this movie. It has such a great message about Christmas and giving to others. It’s an old-timey musical filled with Christmas songs, and what else puts you in the holiday spirit than that?

Where to watch: Free with Netflix

I hope you guys enjoyed my take on the best/classic Christmas movies! Make sure to add some (or all!) of these to your list to watch this December.

What do you think of my list? Would you add/take any of these movies away? What’s your favorite Christmas movie?

The Office: 15 Best Episodes

If you haven’t heard already… Netflix is removing The Office from their streaming service in 2021. I don’t know about you, but I was heartbroken when I heard this. I absolutely love The Office and it’s my comfort show: I’m constantly rewatching it. So I decided to compile a list of the best episodes (in my opinion) to watch in honor of this era coming to an end.

If you haven’t heard already… Netflix is removing The Office from their streaming service in 2021. On January 1st it will be arriving to Peacock TV owned by NBC, they stream primarily NBC owned original content. If you aren’t looking to get a Peacock subscription, you can also buy the complete series on Amazon and Target.

I don’t know about you, but I was heartbroken when I heard this. I absolutely love The Office and it’s my comfort show: I’m constantly rewatching it. So I decided to compile a list of the best episodes (in my opinion) to watch in honor of this era coming to an end. Originally, I was only going to pick 10, but there’s just so many good ones I had to expand a bit. So, without further ado, let’s jump into it!

  1. Diversity Day: S1E2
    1. Michael’s controversial imitation of a Chris Rock routine forces the staff to undergo a racial diversity seminar. A consultant arrives to teach the staff about tolerance and diversity, but Michael insists on imparting his own knowledge—aggravating both the consultant and the entire office staff—and creates his own diversity seminar. He eventually assigns each staff member an index card with a different race on it, causing tempers to slowly simmer until they finally snap.
  2. The Dundies: S2E1
    1. Michael Scott hosts “The Dundies”, the annual awards show in which he presents awards to various members of the office. But the night does not turn out as he plans, and Michael ends up angering or humiliating the majority of the office staff. Meanwhile, after Pam Beesly argues with her fiancé, she becomes obviously intoxicated and kisses Jim Halpert.
  3. The Injury: S2E12
    1. Michael Scott accidentally burns his foot on his George Foreman Grill, but insists on coming to work anyway. When none of his employees, except for Dwight Schrute, help him, Michael feels under-appreciated. Meanwhile, Dwight starts acting strangely nice to everyone, especially Pam Beesly.
  4. Casino Night: S2E22
    1. Dunder-Mifflin holds a casino night in the warehouse to benefit charity. While Michael faces the task of juggling two dates, Jim is forced to ponder the reality of transferring to the Stamford branch and what that means for his relationship with Pam.
  5. Initiation: S3E5
    1. Ryan Howard is taken by Dwight Schrute on what he believes is a sales call, but instead is brought to Dwight’s beet farm for an “initiation.” Pam Beesly is supposed to keep track of Michael Scott’s productivity, but Michael spends his day waiting in line for a pretzel. Jim Halpert steals Karen Filippelli’s chair and foils her attempts to get it back.
  6. Beach Games: S3E23
    1. The office goes to a nearby lake for some “beach games”. It is revealed that Michael is being interviewed for a position at Corporate and that the winner of the beach games will become regional manager. Meanwhile, Dwight and Angela sabotage Andy, and Pam spends her day taking notes of the office workers’ activities.
  7. The Job: S3E24
    1. Michael prepares for his interview for the corporate job and names Dwight as his successor, whose managing methods are unpopular. Jan arrives at the office to see Michael and everyone is shocked when it appears she has undergone breast augmentation. Jim and Karen also interview for the corporate position, and Pam deals with the consequences of her earlier outburst.
  8. Stress Relief: S5E14/15
    1. Dwight stages a fire in the office to test the office’s fire safety skills, but things go from bad to worse when Stanley suffers a heart attack, causing Michael to come up with ways to relieve stress in the office, including a comedic roast of himself.
  9. Niagara: S6E4/5
    1. The episode revolves around the wedding of Jim and Pam at Niagara Falls. Not all goes smoothly when Jim accidentally reveals Pam’s pregnancy to all the guests, including Pam’s very old-fashioned grandmother, and Andy injures his scrotum while dancing. Meanwhile, Michael and Dwight both try to hook up with women, with mixed results.
  10. Threat Level Midnight: S7E17
    1. Michael Scott screens his action film Threat Level Midnight to the office after ten years of writing, shooting, re-shooting, and editing. This film features Michael as Agent Michael Scarn, Dwight Schrute as Scarn’s robot butler, and Jim Halpert as Scarn’s archnemesis “Goldenface”.
  11. Garage Sale: S7E19
    1. Michael decides to propose to Holly, and runs into trouble thinking of how to do it well with his expensive diamond ring. He consults several coworkers on advice and for ideas on how to propose. Meanwhile, Dunder Mifflin Scranton’s warehouse and crew hosts a public garage sale.
  12. Michael’s Last Dundies: S7E21
    1. Michael Scott trains his office replacement, Deangelo Vickers on how to properly host the branch’s annual Dundie Awards. Michael soon learns that Deangelo has a terrible problem with speaking in front of others. Meanwhile, Erin Hannon grows to dislike her boyfriend, Gabe Lewis.
  13. Goodbye Michael: S7E22
    1. Michael prepares to leave for Colorado with Holly and spends his last day in the office saying goodbye to everyone individually, wanting no drama to ensue. Meanwhile, new manager Deangelo and Andy try to keep Michael’s biggest clients.
  14. A.A.R.M.: S9E22/23
    1. Jim Halpert convinces Dwight Schrute that he needs to choose someone to act as an Assistant to the Assistant to the Regional Manager (A.A.R.M.); the two subsequently hold tryouts for the position. Angela Lipton is forced to bring her son, Phillip, to work, and Dwight thinks that he may be his son. Pam Halpert’s final fears about her husband’s love are settled. Finally, all the members of the office gather at Poor Richard’s Pub and watch the airing of the official in-series documentary.
  15. Finale: S9E24/25
    1. In the episode, which takes place a year after the previous episode “A.A.R.M.”, present and past employees of Dunder Mifflin gather for the wedding of Dwight Schrute and Angela Martin, during which Michael Scott returns to serve as Dwight’s best man. In addition, Pam Halpert and Jim Halpert finally decide to pursue Jim’s dream of working in sports marketing. Finally, everyone comes together for a final round of interviews and goodbyes.

1BR Movie Review

A couple weeks ago I watched 1BR, it recently came out on Netflix, and my mind was blown. This movie was not at all what I was expecting. Recently, I’ve been adding movies to my list on Netflix without even watching the trailer, so I’m clueless when it starts but it makes for a better movie experience because I have no prior thoughts or predictions ready.

Happy Monday guys! This is my last wacky post, before I get back on my normal posting schedule on Fridays.

So as I’ve talked about before, I absolutely love watching movies, especially with friends, and I really enjoy scary movies. A couple weeks ago I watched 1BR with my friend Ashleigh, it recently came out on Netflix, and my mind was blown. This movie was not at all what I was expecting. Recently, I’ve been adding movies to my list on Netflix without even watching the trailer, so I’m clueless when it starts but it makes for a better experience because I have no prior thoughts or predictions ready.

Overview

When I first saw the poster for the movie, I honestly thought the girl was getting haunted in her apartment and was intrigued how this would play out. Boy was I wrong, this movie had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I never knew what was gonna happen next or how the ending would play out. It’s fun being able to guess how a movie will end and being right, but it’s even better when you’re wrong and you’re left speechless. That’s how I felt after finishing 1BR.

Sarah, the protagonist, moves to Los Angeles for a fresh start. She begins looking for an apartment to officially get settled into her new life and comes across a 1 bedroom within a surprisingly friendly and welcoming community. Sarah discovers this community is frighteningly too close-knit and there are consequences for rule breakers.

Breakdown + My Thoughts (Spoilers!)

The movie opens up with a look into an apartment complex, panning over the faces of people that live there. The neighbors are all friendly- waving and welcoming you. The next scene is a young girl, Sarah, attending an open house at this same apartment complex. She’s looking to make a new life for herself, moved across the country and is starting over. She doesn’t have much, only her cat, no friends or family, and is staying in a motel for the time-being.

Her application for the apartment gets approved and she moves in. She quickly finds out it’s not all it seems, the plumbing keeps her awake at night, she hears noises, and she gets a threat about her cat (which she secretly has, because of the “no pet” policy) saying she needs to get rid of it.

She befriends a coworker at her temp job and she comes over for dinner. They talk about the possibility of moving in together and how “this is your fucking life,” and not to let anyone take advantage of you or make you feel less than.

This is when the movie takes a turn, but mind you it’s only 30 minutes in so you can only imagine how crazier it gets. It’s slowly revealed that the complex and neighbors are a part of a cult and they begin to brainwash Sarah through physical torture. Eventually, she continues to move through the screening and process of becoming an official member. At one point there’s a scene of the neighbors smiling faces, reflecting the opening scene, but this time you know the horrors of why they’re so happy- a contrast to what it appears to be.

Sarah eventually finds a way to escape, but when she leaves, it’s almost as unsettling as being inside.

After Sarah escapes, setting off the alarm within her building, she stares down a long road of other apartments with red alarms also buzzing- announcing her escape. This shows how many other complexes are a part of the cult. Once this realization sets in, Sarah begins to run down the road (presumably to her freedom) and the movie ends.

Very similar to the ending in The Invitation– in the beginning of this movie, the people involved in the cult light a red lamp outside in their backyard. Once the main couple escapes their cultic encounter, they see on the hills of the city many red lamps in backyards- signaling all the different people involved in the cult.

I liked this movie a lot because it doesn’t end in complete resolution, it leaves you to wonder a little- does she eventually get away and find help, or does the cult find her and bring her back? Sometimes I don’t like when movies end this way, but in this case, you have more room to imagine.

10/10 I would highly recommend seeing this movie. It’s scary without the jumps and spikes of adrenaline. It’s unsettling, and makes you think about how people can be so easily brainwashed into a life like this. You aren’t able to guess the ending, which keeps your attention throughout the film, and there’s always something happening that keeps you intrigued.

Even though I did give away the ending, I hope you still watch it! There’s plenty more detail I didn’t include, and the cinematics bring everything together in an intense way that can only be truly experienced by watching.

Have you watched 1BR? What were your thoughts? Did you like/dislike the ending?

10 Best Halloween Movies to Watch this October

One of my favorite things to do in October is create a list of my all time favorite movies to watch in the spirit of Halloween. The list might be a bit different every year, but my top 10 will always stay the same. These are the classic, must-sees every year that never get old and in my opinion are the epitome of Halloween movies.

What’s up ya’ll! We’re back with another spooky themed post! One of my favorite things to do in October is create a list of my all time favorite movies to watch in the spirit of Halloween. The list might be a bit different every year, but my top 10 will always stay the same. These are the classic, must-sees every year that never get old and in my opinion are the epitome of Halloween movies. Don’t get me wrong, there are loads of other great Halloween movies that I have on the bigger list, but like I said these are my top 10. So, in no particular order, let’s dive into it!

Halloween (1978)

The king of Halloween, Michael Myers, carries the holiday on his back- accompanied by the queen, Jamie Lee Curtis, of course. This slasher film is the embodiment of the scary, more spooky side of Halloween. It follows a mental patient committed for murder who escapes the asylum and returns to his hometown for a killing spree.

Where to watch: Free on Roku Channel, $1.99 on Redbox app, $3.99 on Prime Video

Scream (1996)

This black comedy, slasher film takes scary movies to the next level. The plot focuses on the clichés of the horror movie genre combined with some mystery of who the killer is. The movie is set in the town of Woodsboro and follows a high schooler named Sidney Prescott and her friends as they try to discover who the murderer, “Ghostface”, is.

Where to watch: $2.99 on Prime Video

Hocus Pocus (1993)

You must let the Sanderson sisters grace your screen this October. This fun, family friendly movie is set in Salem, Massachusetts as a young boy accidentally resurrects three evil witches who were executed in the 17th century. Watch to see their evil plan and the trouble they’ll cause begin to unfold.

Where to watch: Free with Disney+

Halloweentown (1998)

Marnie Cromwell is my absolute favorite Halloween character. This movie is the perfect witch coming-of-age story with an emphasis on the power of family strength, and magic obviously. Opposite of Halloween, this movie is the embodiment of the more innocent, child-like spirit of Halloween- the fun of magic, the possibility of becoming someone different, and people (and creatures) of different backgrounds coming together for the greater good.

Where to watch: Free with Disney+

Beetlejuice (1988)

This “horror” movie with a comedic twist follows a couple who have recently died and now haunt their previous home as new residents move in. They hire help from the wicked poltergeist, Beetlejuice, to try and drive the new family out. This movie promises to give you some good laughs as the terror and mischief unfolds.

Where to watch: $3.99 Prime Video

Twitches (2005)+ Twitches Too (2007)

Another fan favorite, alongside Halloweentown, is this heartwarming story of two twin sisters separated at birth who meet on their 21st birthday. Add in the element of magic and danger as they need to use their newfound powers to save their birth world and birth mother and you’ve got the perfect recipe for a homecoming/heroines story.

Where to watch: Free with Disney+

The Addams Family (1991)+ Addams Family Values (1993)

“They’re creepy and they’re kooky, mysterious and spooky, they’re altogether ooky, The Addams Family.” If you’re looking for some fun antics, a wacky family, and good laughs this movie is sure to give you the perfect spooky vibes, without the nightmares.

Where to watch: Free with Prime Video, Free with Netflix (The Addams Family)

Insidious (2010)

On the other hand, if you are looking for a true spook, this movie is sure to make you leave your light on and grab your blanket for protection. A family tries to fight off evil spirits from haunting their child. The scariest part is that the house isn’t haunted, but the child- so you can’t exactly run away.

Where to watch: $2.99 on Prime Video

A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

If you’re looking for a real unsettling horror movie, give this slasher film a watch. You might think there’s nothing worse than a nightmare, but Freddy Kruger show us that’s not the case. He preys on teenagers by haunting them in their sleep and killing them. At least you can wake up from a nightmare…

Where to watch: $2.99 on Prime Video

Friday the 13th (1980)

This was the first scary movie I ever watched, and with good reason. The 80’s classic makes Friday the 13th more than just another date on the calendar. A group of camp counselors are being murdered at the summer camp where a child had drowned years before, as they begin reopening.

Where to watch: $2.99 on Prime Video

I hope you guys enjoyed my take on the best/classic Halloween movies! Make sure to add some (or all!) of these to your list to watch this October. If you’re looking to make a night of watching some of these, read my other post How to Have a Spooky Night In to see how I get cozy for a Halloween movie night.

What do you think of my list? Would you add/take any of these movies away? What’s your favorite Halloween movie?

Netflix & Chill: Quarantine Edition

Scener’s like Netflix Party 2.0. It’s pretty much the same thing, BUT you can connect different streaming services like: Hulu, Disney+, and Prime Video. Also, instead of just a chat box you can actually video chat, and in my opinion this makes it feel more normal.

+ We Summon the Darkness Movie Review

So I absolutely love watching movies, and now that it’s Spooky Season I especially love to watch scary movies. Movies are always more fun to watch with friends or significant others (also I’m too chicken to watch horror movies by myself) so being 1,000 miles away from my close friends (plus the pandemic and quarantine) makes it hard to do that. Thanks to TikTok (I learn so much from it honestly) I found an awesome way to watch movies with my friends and feel like we’re actually in the same room!

Scener A.K.A. The Greatest Invention Ever

If you’ve ever heard of Netflix Party, Scener is very similar to that. In fact, my friends and I used to use Netflix Party a lot in the early stages of quarantine, but there were some issues with connection and it only allowed you to use a chat box to talk with one another. Scener’s like Netflix Party 2.0. It’s pretty much the same thing, BUT you can connect different streaming services like: Hulu, Disney+, and Prime Video. Also, instead of just a chat box you can actually video chat, and in my opinion this makes it feel more normal. You can go to the website https://www.scener.com/ to start your own theater! It’s super easy to use even for someone who’s not tech savvy. Plus there’s even a Google Chrome extension so it’s always ready for your movie nights. Highly suggest using this to spend quality time with friends, family, or significant others, whether it’s long distance or COVID that’s keeping you apart, this is a great way to connect and be intentional!

We had the lights off so you can’t see our faces well, but the video chat is in the sidebar along with a chatbox. For best experience use headphones to prevent echoing while allowing everyone to talk.

We Summon the Darkness Movie Review

The movie my friend, Megan, and I decided to watch was We Summon the Darkness on Netflix. Released in April of this year, directed by Mark Myers, this movie stars Alexandra Daddario, Maddie Hasson, and Amy Forsyth. It follows three close girl friends on a roadtrip to a heavy-metal concert who get caught up in a satanic ritual that’s been the cause of multiple murders in the area. Honestly, this movie was very different than what I expected. If you’re looking for a “hide under your blankets, keep the light on” horror movie you might want to pass. It has a more satiric feel to the film, there’s definitely some suspense and a few plots twists that kept me interested but I wasn’t spooked. Megan says the acting was sub-par, a little awkward in some scenes, but overall okay. I will say it kept my attention for the total 1 hr and 30 min and there was enough action and strength to the storyline that I did enjoy it. I’d rate this a 7/10, wasn’t what I was expecting but still provided good entertainment. Would recommend giving it a watch.
